Community Bowled over by
Utica, North Utica-Whitestown Rotary Clubs Polio Fundraiser
image
Last Wednesday (10/23), on the eve of World Polio Day, nearly fifty Rotarians and friends of the Rotary Clubs of Utica and North Utica/Whitestown gathered at Vista Lanes in Yorkville for our Second Annual Pin Down Polio event, and had a lot of fun doing it. The event raised $1,814 towards Rotary International’s fight to eradicate polio worldwide, which was matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for a whopping $5,442! District Governor Randy Wilson and Janet Wilson, and our exchange student Felix and his Clinton family the Walters were among those who joined in the fun. Great work, Rotarians, especially event chairs Stephen Turnbull and Steve Karboski, and thanks to our sponsors.

LAST WEEK, we welcomed Melanie Francis of the American Cancer Society as our guest speaker.  Thank you for presenting, Melanie, especially during our recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Come back and join us any time.

THIS WEEK at the Yahnundasis (Thurs., Oct. 31), join us for our luncheon meeting when our speaker will be the inimitable, always entertaining, fellow Rotarian and past president of the North Utica-Whitestown Rotary Club, Steve Karboski, who will speak to us about the importance of funeral pre-planning. (Please see yellow RSVP at the top of this newsletter and reply today!). Another great opportunity to bring a guest, and SHARE ROTARY!  See you there!

Areas 2 & 3 Rotary Clubs Clean up along the Casimir Pulaski Highway

image

Fifteen Rotarians from the Utica, North Utica Whitestown and Rome Rotary Clubs joined forces this past Saturday morning to clean up a portion of the Casimir Pulaski Highway, aka “The North-South Arterial.” This was the second such arterial cleanup undertaken by the clubs. The first took place last May, and the clubs plan to continue this twice a year project next year. Both cleanups were organized by Utica Rotarian Stephen Turnbull, who also supplied the crew with coffee and donuts. Hard hats off to our fellow Rotarians, who say they had a great time providing a vital community service, and got a unique look at this historic pathway through Utica, formerly the route of the Chenango Canal.
